Amazon has reportedly ordered two million Kindle Fire 2 tablets to launch on August 7th. Look for an announcement on July 31st. A strategic move on Amazon's part, to try and hold their ground against Google's Nexus 7 tablet that is shipping later this month. Read more about it at Technology Tell. Bloomberg also reports that Amazon is planning a smartphone that will compete with the iPhone.
Reports out of China are that Apple is preparing to release an "iPad Mini" later this year to compete with Nexus 7, Kindle Fire, and Nook Tablet. The iPad Mini would boast a 7.85" screen with 1024x768 resolution, that is based off of first-generation iPad technology. Read more about it at TeleRead.
